No one seems to be writing opinion pieces quite the way I would, so I decided to do it myself. The name? Taverns are places where one goes to discuss the interesting events and things in the world, so this is my tavern. I will offer my views on politics, economics, and whatever else strikes my fancy.

Greenspan - No indications of Economic Upturn at This TimeFort Worth Star-TelegramWASHINGTON - Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said Tuesday there is no "major evidence" that U.S. economic growth is accelerating. He hinted again that the central bank may soon cut interest rates to boost growth and guard against a dangerous period of deflation. Speaking via satellite to a meeting of the world's leading private bankers in Berlin, Greenspan said the Fed has no concerns that a pickup in growth would cause inflation to get worse. Instead, "we would be far more inclined, as we have been over the last couple of years, to be taking out insurance against economic weakness" that could cause what he termed a "corrosive deflation." Paul Krugman writes on the idiocy of the Bush administration economic policy. Check it out. |
